2017 Scholar Metrics Released

Scholar Metrics provide an easy way for authors to quickly gauge the visibility and influence of recent articles in scholarly publications. GS is releasing the 2017 version of Scholar Metrics. This release covers articles published in 2012–2016 and includes citations from all articles that were indexed in Google Scholar as of June 2017.

To get started, you can browse the top 100 publications in several languages, ordered by their five-year h-index and h-median metrics. To see which articles in a publication were cited the most and who cited them, click on its h-index number to view the articles as well as the citations underlying the metrics.

You can also explore publications in research areas of your interest. To browse publications in a broad area of research, select one of the areas in the left column. For example: Top publications for FINANCE category.

2016 Google Scholar Metrics



This year's release covers "articles published between 2011 and 2015, both inclusive. The metrics are based on citations from all articles that were indexed in Google Scholar in June 2016.

This also includes citations from articles that are not themselves covered by Scholar Metrics."

2015 Academic Reputation Survey

Thomson Reuters released its 6th annual Academic Reputation Survey:
Exploring Scholarly Trends and Shifts Impacting the Academic Reputation of the World’s Leading Universities”. 


The report analyzes the key trends and shifts in global research influencing institutions’ academic standings. It covers 65,000 academics from 6,500 universities in 105 areas of study.

Top 100 most cited papers

The Journal Nature has partnered with Thomson Reuters Web of Science database to determine the top 100 most cited papers.

Looking at 100 years of data, and the 58 million items stored in the Web of Science database, 3 articles have been cited more than a 100 000 times, all published prior to 1980, all in the biology field.

Google Scholar came up with an alternative ranking, click to see the comparison for 10 papers.

Journal ranking by Scopus

The SCImago Journal & Country Rank is a "portal that includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus database."
It offers finer levels of business and management categories than the - more well-known - Journal Citation Report by ISI Web of Knowledge.

Thomson Reuters released its latest Journal Citation Report (2012 data)
"Suppressed titles were found to have anomalous citation patterns resulting in a significant distortion of the Journal Impact Factor, so that the rank does not accurately reflect the journal’s citation performance in the literature."

The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) has released its Corporate Recruiters Survey 2011 report.

  • Globally, more companies are hiring in 2011 and the average number of new hires is expected to increase. 
  • In 2011, European companies are poised to exceed the average annual starting salary that US employers plan to offer MBA graduates.
  • Demand for MBA graduates in the United States is expected to be strongest in the finance, accounting, health care, pharmaceutical, consulting, and high-tech sectors; in Europe, energy and utilities; and in Asia, high technology, products and services, finance, and accounting.

The National Research Council released the Data-Based Assessment of Research-Doctorate Programs on September 28, 2010. The report consists of a descriptive volume, and a comprehensive data table in Excel containing data on characteristics and ranges of rankings for over 5000 programs in 62 fields at 212 institutions.
