Top journals by impact factor - Latest JCR is released

From the press release: 


The 2017 release, with 2016 citation data for literature within the sciences and social sciences, features 11,459 journal listings in 236 disciplines; 81 countries are represented. A total of 132 journals received their first JIF.

Below, top 10 journals for Management by impact factor:

Journal Impact Factor: what - or who - makes a citable item?

In this article from The Scholarly Kitchen, Phil Davis makes a suggestion for an algorithm driven process in determining what makes an item citatable or not. The goal would be to remove human bias as much as possible in selecting what Thomson Reuters considers a citable item.

Citable items are part of the calculations used to create the Journal Impact Factor of academic publications.

Top journals by impact factor - Latest JCR is released


From the press release: 
The 2015 release, with 2014 citation data for literature within the sciences and social sciences, features 11,149 journal listings in 237 disciplines; 82 countries are represented. A total of 272 journals received their first JIF; 53 percent of journals saw an increase in JIF from last year and 43 percent saw a decrease. Additionally, 39 journals were suppressed to ensure the integrity of the reports. Suppressed journals are re-evaluated after a year for reconsideration in the JCR.

Top 100 most cited papers

The Journal Nature has partnered with Thomson Reuters Web of Science database to determine the top 100 most cited papers.

Looking at 100 years of data, and the 58 million items stored in the Web of Science database, 3 articles have been cited more than a 100 000 times, all published prior to 1980, all in the biology field.

Google Scholar came up with an alternative ranking, click to see the comparison for 10 papers.

2014 Google Scholar Metrics report released

Last month Google Scholar released its Scholar Metrics report for 2014, link to the Business, Economics & Management area.
"This release is based on citations from all articles that were indexed in Google Scholar as of mid-June 2013 and covers articles published in 2009–2013."
You can filter down the results by 8 broad areas and 253 specific categories. You will see the top 20 publications ordered by their five-year h-index and h-median metrics.

Academic publishers remove fake papers from journals

Following revelations from French researcher Cyril Labbé, well-known editors such as IEEE or Springer had to remove conference proceeding papers created using SCIgen, a MIT-developed tool that creates computer-generated academic articles.

Read article in Nature: Publishers withdraw more than 120 gibberish papers. Cyril Labbé has developed a tool to help identify papers authored via SCIen.

ShareLaTeX now open source


LaTeX users may already be using the ShareLaTex tool a web-based real-time collaborative LaTeX editor.

ShareLaTex is now open source, the authors hope that by opening up the code to all, requests for new features will be met faster than what their current resources allow.

Journal ranking by Scopus

The SCImago Journal & Country Rank is a "portal that includes the journals and country scientific indicators developed from the information contained in the Scopus database."
It offers finer levels of business and management categories than the - more well-known - Journal Citation Report by ISI Web of Knowledge.

Can tweets really predict citations?

In contrast with the article 'Can tweets predict citations' a recent study finds very little correlation between the number of tweets received by articles in the biomedical literature and later citation counts obtained from more traditional methods.

Google Scholar Metrics

The 2013 version of Scholar Metrics was released on July 24, 2013. It covers articles published between 2008 and 2012.

'Scholar Metrics currently cover articles published between 2008 and 2012, both inclusive. The metrics are based on citations from all articles that were indexed in Google Scholar in July 2013. This also includes citations from articles that are not themselves covered by Scholar Metrics.'

Thomson Reuters released its latest Journal Citation Report (2012 data)
"Suppressed titles were found to have anomalous citation patterns resulting in a significant distortion of the Journal Impact Factor, so that the rank does not accurately reflect the journal’s citation performance in the literature."
